Amid the profound political transformations and the tragic humanitarian situation unfolding in Sudan — marked by intertwined political, economic, and military challenges — the Ibn Rushd Fund for Freedom of Thought, in cooperation with the Sudanese Club, invites you to attend an intellectual symposium discussing the roots of Sudan’s current crisis. The event will also explore prospects for democratic transition and possibilities for building a sustainable civil state.
Researcher in economics and feminist scholar Shadia Abdel Moneim, together with physician and political activist Dr. Ibrahim Khattab, will offer an analytical reading of the historical and social context of the emergence of the Sudanese military establishment, as well as the relations of production and class alliances that contributed to consolidating its dominance over power — an attempt to understand the dynamics and structural challenges of the modern Sudanese state.
Shadia Abdel Moneim will also address the humanitarian dimensions of the ongoing crisis and its catastrophic impact on civilians — particularly women and vulnerable groups — in light of the continuing armed conflict and worsening living conditions, and the resulting deep social and political repercussions.
